FG To Lift 133m Nigerians Out Of Poverty as UNICEF Commits $270m On Humanitarian, Emergencies

The Federal Government has expressed its committed to lifting about 133 Million poor Nigerians out of poverty.

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Beta Edu disclosed this when the Country Representative, United Nations Children Fund, Christian Mundate and UNICEF team paid her a courtesy in Abuja.

According to statement by signed by the Deputy Director, Infomation, Rhoda Iliya and made available to Channel Network Afrique, CNA, the Minister emphasised that top on the priority list of the Tinubu led administration are the 71 Million extremely poor Nigerians who leave under one dollar ninety-five cents a day.

She urged UNICEF to draw up plans towards supporting the Federal Governmentโ€™s drive on poverty alleviation.

โ€Time is of essence and we need to run at the speed of light to roll out social programs that will bring relieve to the burdens of the poor. Nigerians are eagerly waiting for full implementation of the renewed hope agenda, the time for intense action is now,โ€ she said.

Dr. Edu while assuring UNICEF of the ministryโ€™s commitment to be transparent and accountable in all their dealings said the engagement with stakeholders will continue until Government achieves its target.

The Country Representative, United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) Christian Mundate, earlier assured the Minister of its commitment to support the Humanitarian Response and Poverty Alleviation programme of the Federal Government with two hundred and seventy million United States Dollars ($270M).

The UNICEF Chief also assured the Minister of their technical support to build capacity of the Ministryโ€™s staff as well as support the development of a Humanitarian Response Protocol for Nigeria to guide all Humanitarian Actors as this will facilitate effective coordination.
