UK to experience -9C: UK Deep freeze as temperatures prediction

2024-11-07 by recruitmentnote Leave a Comment

UK to experience -9C: UK Deep freeze as temperatures prediction – New weather maps show that the UK could be plunged into the deep freezer in just weeks.

Temperatures are expected to plummet by around 9C in the coming week as an Arctic blast of colder weather grips the nation, forecasters have said. The UK has been enjoying unseasonably mild conditions recently with temperatures reaching the late teens, but a looming low-pressure system is set to usher in much colder weather next week.

Britain could be hit with a blast of snow towards the end of this month as temperatures drop well below freezing point.

Areas across the UK will experience severe cold weather, with places in Scotland hitting as low as -9C – and the cold blast will also be accompanied by snowfall in certain parts of the country.

A map from NetWeather reveales the UK almost entirely covered in various shades of blue, indicating weather temperatures hitting minus degrees from midnight on Saturday, 23 November.

WXCharts maps also showed parts of the UK covered in different shades of blue, revealing around a 20% chance of snow to hit the country. Areas in Europe are marked to have a 50% chance of snow, showing where the cold blast may be coming from.

Jim Dale, founder and the senior meteorological consultant at British Weather Services shared that polar airstream is what will bring snow “at least above 1000 feet” to the northern region of the UK, specifically Scotland.

He told Express.co.uk: “It will turn noticeably colder in that frigid airstream, with fairly widespread frosts developing.

“The period of November 19 to 20 is then expected to see light forays of snow down the eastern side of the country as far south as East Anglia and maybe London, as well as northern Scotland and added value for the mountains where there will be more than possible light flurries.

“The icy weather will probably persist into November 20 and 21 before high pressure gradually returns from the west.”

But, says Jim, there’s one major caveat.

He added: “We are still some way away so this could all still change for the better or worse, depending on your viewpoint on ice and snow. All to play for.”

The Met Officeโ€™s long range forecast revealed that weather leading into the next month could remain unpredictable.

In reference to Thursday, Nov 21 โ€“ Thursday, Dec 5 The Met Office said: โ€œA general trend towards more unsettled conditions for all parts seems more likely than not through this period.

โ€œInitially, there may be something of a north-south split, with more unsettled conditions towards the north whilst drier conditions persist towards the south.โ€

Some fog is also possible, this slow to clear. Later next week, it looks like turning more unsettled for a time, with some rain or showers, particularly towards the east.

After a possible brief drier spell next weekend, it may become largely unsettled during the following week. Winds will be mainly light for many parts early next week, but breezier conditions seem likely to develop from later next week. Temperatures will be near or a little above average at first, but will tend to drop a little below average later.
