2023-06-12 by Note Leave a Comment

NYSC 2023: Calculate Age Limit for Mobilization – The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Nigeria has specific guidelines for calculating the age limit for mobilization into the NYSC program. See below for all you need to know.

The age limit is an important factor in determining the eligibility of graduates to participate in the mandatory one-year national service scheme.

Does NYSC Exempt Graduates From Service?

YES

  • When the person exceeds the age of 30 years, or
  • If the person has served in the Nigerian military or para-military for one year or more, or
  • When the person is physically ‘disabled’

Note that Exclusion Letter is less than discharge certificate. But certificate of exemption is equal to discharge certificate.

The Purpose of the National Youth Service Corps

NYSC is a scheme established by the Federal Govt of Nigerian after the civil war with the primary aim of fostering unity, reconciliation, rebuild and reintegrate with one another to break the hard ice which was formed between Nigerians because of the civil war.

Those eligible for this service are Nigerian youths who graduated from Universities and Polytechnic within or outside Nigeria before the age of 30. It means you are eligible to serve provided you graduated before 30 years.

How NYSC Calculate Age Limit for Mobilization

NYSC will look into the information submitted to JAMB. From there, they will extract your date of birth and calculate the period starting from your date of birth to the date you graduated from a tertiary institution.

Note: NYSC is sensitive to days.

In the past, NYSC obtained students’ dates of birth from Corps Producing Institutions (CPIs). However, due to some schools manipulating the ages of their graduates, the scheme now relies on JAMB for more reliable information.

Furthermore, if a candidate claims that there is a mistake in their date of birth as submitted to JAMB, NYSC can confirm it by checking their O-level details from the West African Examination Council.

Now, let’s explore a few questions and answers related to the age limit for NYSC Mobilization.
