What is VNIN?

VNIN stands for Virtual National Identification Number (VNIN)
It is simply a tokenized version of your National Identification Number (NIN)
It is a 16-character alphanumeric virtual NIN, i.e. “XS868977863229AU”.
It can only be used once and expires within 72 hours, whether used or not

Why VNIN?

NIMC deployed VNIN to provide a secure means of presenting the National Identification Number (NIN) in a format that can protect the NIN from being cloned or duplicated.

How to link your MTN SIM Card with your NIN Offline?

Please provide us with your NIN, for further validation with NIMC. You can do this easily by dialing *785# free of charge and following the prompts. You can also submit your NIN to us on myMTN app.

After your NIN has been submitted, we will begin the process of verification with the NIMC. If your NIN is verified, we will link it to your MTN SIM registration, and you may not need to do anything further. If it is not possible to verify the NIN you have submitted, then you may need to visit an enrolment centre, in person.

We will provide further information of the status of your NIN verification as soon as possible.
